Conditions in Adelaide were ideal for Supercars racing today, with blue skies and mild temperatures providing a perfect stage for some fast times.
Both of today’s practice sessions were important for the weekend, with a Top 10 result in Practice 2 giving a direct path into Q2 tomorrow. A Top 10 result in Practice 3 would mean graduation into Q2 on Sunday.
Practice 2 went largely to plan for the team, with McLaughlin finishing p7 and Coulthard p8. McLaughlin reported that the balance felt much better than it did on Friday, while Coulthard continued to work with his crew to find more.
Practice 3 saw McLaughlin’s fortunes improve dramatically, sitting on top, or near the top, of the timesheets across the whole session, before ultimately going on to finish second.
Coulthard struggled with car balance and grip levels, to finish p13 for the session.
The next on-track session will be Qualifying for Race 1 tomorrow, from 11:55am local time.
COULTHARD QUOTE: “We were just chasing the car in Practice 3. We are trying to make it better. We’ll have to do it the hard way to get into the 10 on Sunday, but hopefully by then we will have tuned it up and we will understand this package a little better. I’m disappointed with that performance, but we’ll put in the work and get it back.”
MCLAUGHLIN QUOTE: “That was really good. Car felt really nice. Great changes by the team. We’ve been working really hard on it overnight, and we’ve found a good balance. Chaz’s lap is very good, we’re going to have to work hard to get to that, but I think we are there or thereabouts. The track is quick, the conditions are perfect for Supercars. I like this format, getting to have a crack on good tyres. You get a real form guide. It’s what we’ve been wanting for years. I’m having fun.”
