RECAP: Scott McLaughlin and Fabian Coulthard both had solid starts to their Newcastle 500 weekends, with Top 10 pace across the day.

Coulthard battled an issue in Practice 1 that slowed his progress, before jumping up the order in Practice 2.

McLaughlin topped the opening session, before backing it up with Top 5 pace in Practice 2.

Both drivers were hampered by yellow flags late in the second session, which meant they did not complete their final laps.

Tomorrow will see the field compete in a 20-minute qualifying session, Top 10 Shootout and 250km race around the Newcastle Street Circuit.

COULTHARD QUOTE: “Solid start to the weekend, nice to be back in Newcastle. We had a bit of work to do with the car early on, and we found an issue with the car in Practice 1, hence being down the order as car wasn’t predictable. We got pretty close there in Practice 2. Had to slow for yellow flags on my green tyre run, and only one-tenth back from p1, so can’t be unhappy with that.”

MCLAUGHLIN QUOTE: “I’m pretty happy with how things went with the car today. The car feels nice, and I know there’s a bit more left in it for qualifying tomorrow. I really love racing here in Newcastle, it’s a great track and a great town so I’m looking forward to getting back in the 17 tomorrow.”
