ADELAIDE 500 – FRIDAY, MARCH 2 – PRACTICE & QUALIFYING
Fabian Coulthard – No. 12 Shell V-Power Racing Ford
Practice 1 – 17th (Fastest Lap: 1m21.2512s)
Practice 2 – 8th (Fastest Lap: 1m20.7219s)
Qualifying – 18th (Fastest Lap:1m20.8532s)
RECAP: Coulthard endured a tough day in hot conditions around the Adelaide street circuit, working with his new engineering team to tune the handling of his No.12 Shell V-Power Ford. It all came together in qualifying, where he was on a fast lap only to be thwarted by a red flag caused by a heavy crash for Jamie Whincup at the notorious, high-speed turn eight. He’ll start tomorrow’s 250km race from 18th place on the grid.
COULTHARD QUOTE: “We were unlucky with that red flag coming out for Jamie, and I think we would have been comfortably in the Top 10 if I’d been able to finish that lap. The team have given me a good car, as they always do. We’ll work on it a little more overnight, and push really hard for a good result in the race tomorrow. It’s a long race, and anything can happen.”
Scott McLaughlin – No. 17 Shell V-Power Racing Ford
Practice 1 – 3rd (Fastest Lap: 1m20.5649s)
Practice 2 – 1st (Fastest Lap: 1m20.3567s)
Qualifying – 2nd (Fastest Lap: 1m20.2477s)
RECAP: McLaughlin spent the entire opening day of the Adelaide 500 on or near the top of the timesheets, ultimately taking second place in qualifying to book himself a place in tomorrow’s Top 10 Shootout. He was best by a miniscule 1/100th of a second, and is happy with the speed of his No.17 Shell V-Power Ford.
MCLAUGHLIN QUOTE: “I’m pretty happy with that, it’s a great start to the year. Shane and I were separated by a fraction of a second in the same session last year, so it’s amazing to have the same thing happen again twelve months later. I’m looking forward to having the track to myself tomorrow in the Shootout, and giving it a big crack around this place.”
