Solid Practice at Phillip Island21 Apr 2017
Fabian Coulthard - No. 12 Shell V-Power Racing Ford
Practice 1 - 8th (Fastest Lap: 1m31.1994s)
Practice 2 - 7th (Fastest Lap: 1m30.3006s)
RECAP: Fabian had a big scare late in Practice 1, when his left front tyre suddenly deflated at turn 3, running across the gravel trap
narrowly avoiding contact with the wall. Practice 2 was spent tuning the car for the long 250km races, with tyre life going to be very important. He
ended the day 7th after handing the car over to his co-driver Tony D’Alberto when the fast laps started to roll out.
QUOTE: “It was a bit of a scare having a front tyre fail, we weren’t the only ones with Lowndes and Van Gisbergen also having the same
problem. It’s an area we’ll need to focus on. I think we have a good race car, we just need to be able to lift in qualifying trim to make it better.
It was good to give Tony some laps today. We probably missed out going quicker, but he’s had very little running so it was important for him to have
Scott McLaughlin - No. 17 Shell V-Power Racing Ford
Practice 1 - 9th (Fastest Lap: 1m31.2877s)
Practice 2 - 3rd (Fastest Lap: 1m29.9165s)
RECAP: The No.17 driver took his time to adjust to his car and the new tyre on the high speed Phillip Island circuit. He didn’t get a
full flying lap in at the end of Practice 1, ending the session 9th. In Practice 2, Scott and his engineers worked to prepare for qualifying tomorrow
morning. He ended the day 3rd, nearly four-tenths of a second under his old lap record.
QUOTE: “For me, it’s a matter of getting used to this tyre at a track like this, without overstepping the mark. Obviously today we saw some tyre failures with Fabian, Shane and a big one with Lowndesy, and we don’t want any more of that. The car feels nice, we just need to fine tune a few areas. We’re an easy third place today, and tomorrow we’ll come back to try for first.”
